What Exactly is Ashtanga Yoga?
The fundamental basis of all other forms of physical postural vinyasa yoga lies in Ashtanga yoga. This particular form of yoga is designed to cultivate profound internal awareness and depth within your personal practice, thereby enhancing its transformative power in our everyday lives.
Our program equips you with the necessary understanding to deliver precise and impactful teaching methods through the study of Ashtanga yoga. Learn more about the richness of the lineage of Ashtanga Yoga below.

The Ashtanga Yoga system follows a memorized structured sequence of postures (asanas) and breathing techniques (pranayama) that serve to cleanse both body and mind.
This practice demands physical rigor and discipline, with its primary objective being the harmonization of breath and movement, resulting in a seamless flow of poses. Since the practice becomes memorized, the practitioner is no longer externally distracted by seeing what posture is next etc. and has accessibility to a deep meditative state of self awareness. Beyond its physical aspects, Ashtanga Yoga places equal emphasis on ethical principles (yamas and niyamas), control over breath (pranayama), withdrawal from sensory distractions (pratyahara), concentration techniques (dharana), as well as meditation practices (dhyana). The ultimate aim inherent in practicing Ashtanga Yoga lies in achieving self-realization alongside attaining a tranquil state of mind through unifying body, breath, and consciousness.

Our Program’s Educational Pedagogy
Yoga pedagogy refers to the methods and principles used to teach yoga effectively. It involves the art and science of imparting yoga knowledge to students, fostering a safe and transformative learning experience. At Maya we provide the following framework to engage, demonstrate, and facilitate feedback to ensure our student’s success within our program.
-
Academic Approach
Within our teacher training program yoga is not taught as religion, a form of entertainment, or even an exercise class (though it does benefit the body and our program does spend significant time understanding the necessary knowledge to teach physical asana). There are wildly diverse traditions of yoga throughout Indian history with distinct differences as well as similarities. Maya yoga takes this seriously. What we teach is based on scholars, master teachers, and accurate sources. While our program focuses on the lineage and physical postures of Ashtanga yoga, we provide a wide frame academic viewpoint to students showing this diversity within the creative and spiritual traditions of India.

Organized Information and Awesome Additional Learning Materials
Our program curriculum systematically structures yoga studies in a coherent and highly organized manner. We utilize presentations, lectures, homework, reading materials, and hands on workshops: We employ presentations enriched with captivating visuals along with engaging lectures supplemented by interactive discussions and practices within each technique taught. By incorporating these strategies in our program curriculum we ensure that our graduates are equipped with comprehensive knowledge about yoga as a whole while maintaining their interest throughout their learning journey.
-
Feedback and Evaluation
This is perhaps one of the most crucial elements for progress within any learning program. Our teacher training instructors provide regular feedback and evaluation to students. Constructive feedback helps students identify areas for improvement and build on their strengths as teachers. We encourage students to embrace their unique teaching styles while staying true to the principles and ethics of yoga

Aligned Curriculum to Yoga Alliance Enhanced Standards
Yoga Alliance had introduced the Elevated RYS (Registered Yoga School) 200 Standards, also known as E-RYS 200, to enhance the quality and depth of yoga teacher training programs. These standards were designed to address some of the critiques of the previous RYS 200 standards and to ensure that yoga teacher training programs provide a comprehensive and transformative learning experience for aspiring yoga teachers. Our curriculum follows the recommended framework of elevated yoga alliance standards.
