Introduction to Ashtanga:
This class will teach the fundamentals of ashtanga yoga, to prepare the student for the regular ashtanga and vinyasa classes.
Ashtanga Primary Series:
This
class refers to the full primary series of the ashtanga system, as
taught in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. This
flowing sequence of postures utilizes ujjayi breath and bandhas (energy
locks) to increases muscular strength, flexibility and concentration.
Mysore Style Ashtanga: All Levels Welcome!
Mysore is a city
in the south of India

where Ashtanga yoga has been taught by
Sri K. Pattabhi Jois
since the 1930's.
This traditional Mysore style is taught silently and has students learn
postures in a fixed order using a special movement-breathing technique
called vinyasa. The vinyasa links the postures together in the dance of
the breath. Postures are given one at a time, by the teacher, so each
student is given their practice according to their ability. Since each
posture is designed to prepare you for the rest of the series, beginners
tend to have a much shorter practice than more experienced students. As
they gain strength, stamina, flexibility and concentration, additional
postures are given to the student.
Vinyasa Yoga:
Vinyasa
classes use the flowing vinyasa movement of ashtanga yoga, but use a
VARIETY of postures (instead of a set series of postures like Ashtanga
yoga) to cultivate balance, flexibility, strength and endurance.
Community Class (Yoga Basics):
This class
teaches the fundamentals of vinyasa yoga with special emphasis on
moving into and out of postures safely, correct alignment, and using
the breath, to prepare the student for the regular ashtanga and
vinyasa classes.
Kids Yoga - for Parents and Kids (ages 2.5 yrs-6 yrs):
This class offers a
fun, creative approach to Yoga that includes both child and parent. The
setting will encourage patience, confidence and appreciation of nature
through animated yoga poses and relaxation techniques. Classes are
structured around a variety of activities such as: games, music, singing,
dancing, breathing exercises and a final relaxation poses.
